It's hard to say exactly when I got "saved". I was raised in a home that was outwardly Christian, so I've always known about Christianity. My walk with the Lord has progressed in stages. Around 9th grade, I started getting serious about Christianity, threw away a bunch of rock & roll records (because of their lyrics), and started trying to read the bible. However, I was very self-righteous. At 19, I was suddenly hit by a desire to admit my faults and not try to hide them (triggered by a John Wayne movie, of all things--the Lord works in strange ways!). Even so, I was still self-righteous, and wasn't fully repentant of all my sins. I grew slowly after that, gradually gaining biblical understanding in fits and spurts. At 36, I started growing increasingly aware (and frustrated) that churches weren't following huge swaths of the bible. Finally at 40, I heard the Doctrines of Grace preached in force, and by that time God had prepared my heart to receive them eagerly. There's plenty of sanctification left to do in my life, but I feel I've now submitted myself fully to him. |

The Past: This is somewhat humorous. At age 17, I briefly heard about Calvinism--and hated it. And I remember being very annoyed to discover that the bible seemed to support it! In my rebellion, I intentionally forgot about Calvinism as fast I could. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. If I had heeded the bible back then, I could have saved myself a lot of church-related grief over the ensuing years. The Present: the Reformed viewpoint now makes the bible make SO much more sense. God's wrath, justice, and predestination...without those concepts, one must resort to eisegesis to handle large swaths of the bible. The Doctrines of Grace have enabled me to trust the bible as the supreme authority of God's revelation, and trust in Christ alone for my justification, not in any of my works. |

I have a Quiet Time most mornings, except Sundays. Lately I've been using the M'Cheyne reading calendar. Sometimes I just open the bible randomly. |

That's a tough one...there are lots of characters with admirable qualities. Boaz, because he was an upright man in a crooked generation. Gideon, because he followed God despite his fears and hesitations. Joseph the father of Jesus, because he repeatedly followed God's direction while raising Jesus. The Apostle Paul, for his blasting anyone who would dare compromise the pure Gospel of grace. The Apostle John, for his recording some of the more intimate and loving conversations that Jesus held with the disciples. Moses, for being "more humble than anyone else". But I think my favorite is Boaz. He seems like such an unassuming guy, who was set on living with integrity, no matter what anyone else thought. So much so that he was even willing to give up his romantic desire, Ruth, if the nearer kinsman-redeemer would claim her. I think that action showed immense integrity; we know that he desired her and she desired him, and yet he was dead set on doing what was right in the Lord's eyes even if it meant losing her. Wow. |

I have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in computer science. I also did some work towards a Ph.D., but didn't get the degree. Fresh out of college, I designed ASICs (chips) for a couple of years. But ever since then I've been doing software. I'm not 100% sure I want to stay in software; it's interesting, but sometimes it doesn't seem very meaningful. Sometimes I wish the Lord would equip me for work that's more people-based. |

Really, I'd like to head a healthy family. That'll be a challenge given that I have plenty of shortcomings, and that we're all infected with sin! But really, I'd like to have a wife that I bless, and children (either mine or someone else's) to whom I can provide direction in life. |

Willing to follow the Lord's leading. I do like central Texas, but Austin is too liberal for me (both in politics and social morals). I'd be willing to move, especially someplace that's not quite as hot. |
