| I have children but would like to have more. | |
| I have never known a time when I didn’t trust in Christ as my Savior and Lord. I’m passionate about the truth of His Word. | |
| If it weren’t for the knowledge that salvation is completely the grace of God and isn’t up to me at all, I would find myself despairing of ever being worthy of Him. In that way I rather identify with Martin Luther’s monastic years—well, just a little bit ;) Whenever I look at how I constantly fail to live up to God’s standards, I find comfort knowing I’m saved by His grace, that I’m covered by His righteousness, and that I can strive to grow in holiness out of gratitude to him and for His glory, rather than trying to earn something. | |
Original Profile: In Scripture I'm reading through Psalms and 2nd Corinthians. I frequently read various books at night before turning off the light. Yesterday (April 8th) I finished "Female Piety", so I'm about to dive into Jonathan Edwards' "Charity & Its Fruits". That's a long-term read for me, because it's a book meant to be chewed and digested slowly. So I'm reading a bit at a time, writing out my thoughts, sometimes sharing them with friends.
Spring 2009 as wife & mother in God's providence thanks to SGS: I enjoy quiet time reading through the gospels, and devotions with my husband working through D.A. Carson's "For the Love of God" vol. 1 |
|
| I’d have to say the women Lois and Eunice. Why? Look at the godly influence they had upon their son/grandson Timothy. Even though his father wasn’t a believer, his mother and grandmother were covenantally faithful in his upbringing, and how God blessed it! | |
Original Profile: My greatest desire is to be married. I believe this desire is God-given and one not to be squelched, since in Scripture marriage is one of the most important aspects of the created order.
Spring 2009 as wife & mother, I'm very content being married with a son of my own to rear in the nuture and admonition of the Lord. |
|
| 1. Loyal—I am faithful and devoted to friends and family. My earnest desire is to show fidelity to God by living life His way. 2. Loving—I love people and the Lord and enjoy serving the church and others. 3. Feminine—People describe me as sweet and honest, compassionate and gentle. I strive always to be gracious and hospitable. 4. Curious—I enjoy many things in life, both large and small. God’s creation is thrillingly marvelous. I love to read great books, listen to beautiful music and learn about the world around me. | |
| Covenantal family life; paedo-baptism; solidly reformed education (homeschool, private, or classical); biblical, reformed theology and worldview. I love the creeds and reformed confessions of faith as well as the great, classic hymns and psalms. | |
The first thing I am most thankful for is a godly, covenantally faithful family, who have brought me up in the nurture & admonition of the Lord. I'm also thankful for the providence of God; for the fact that God "does uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge, and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."(WCF) Finally, I'm thankful for books. Can't imagine life without them. ;)
Spring 2009---To the first thing I'd like to add I'm thankful for both my old family and my new one--my husband and my newborn son. |
|
1. Knows what they believe and why; devoted to covenant and reformed theology and God’s church.
2. Intelligent but doesn’t parade it or make others feel inferior, has integrity and honesty yet not critical, sensitive to and concerned for others, puts people at ease (not intense), warm and affectionate
3. Enjoys talking about both fun and serious (theological) things 4. Mannerly, appreciative of God’s good gifts 5. Loyal, stable, steadfast, and committed.
6. Diligent and industrious |
|
| My maternal grandmother, who has constantly encouraged me with the oft-repeated refrain “As my grandpa Karl always said, ‘God will never fail you,’ and He never has.” This has had a great impact on my life. I love the providence of God! | |
| N/A and am happily married via this site! | |
| 1. “Our help is in the LORD, who made heaven and earth”-Ps.124:8 2. “Learn…endurance in hope.”-Nienna, the Silmarillion 3. “Be happy in your work.”-Bridge on the River Kwai 4. “Impoliteness shows a man to be a fool, for it takes away an advantage while giving none in return.”-The Samurai Tale 5. “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have”-Theodore Roosevelt 6. “There is light, beauty no shadow can touch”—Sam Gamgee | |
Original Profile: Currently I am an elementary teacher at a private Classical Christian school in town. I love working with children, they’re so much fun. On Sundays I teach the Beginners Sunday school class. I’ve taught Sunday School virtually non-stop for the last five years (and occasionally before that). I love it!
Spring 2009: I am a full-time stay-at-home mother to Theodore Carson (gift of God, and mn after my husband's favorite author D.A. Carson), and am enjoying the challenges of motherhood. I also enjoy caring for and painting the house we bought, and culinary adventures when my husband Sean and I cook foods from other nations. So far we've "visited" via our kitchen Morocco, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Russia, Turkey... |
|
| I enjoy reading, and desire to continue improving my mind with great books throughout my life. To help achieve this end, I've recently purchased Susan Wise Bauer's "The Well-Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had" and have started working through it with a friend. I want to be a gracious, hospitable, loving, caring helpmeet and mother, to continue reading great works of literature, and enjoy watching exciting races while shouting at the TV ;) | |
I read, sing, spend time with my family’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, talk with friends, bake, embroider and knit, hike in the mountains, enjoy classical music, watch NASCAR on TV, listen to theological discussions or Mars Hill Audio Journal CDs.
Spring 2009: Playing with Theodore, watching movies with my husband, listening to Mars Hill Audio or White Horse Inn with my husband, reading, baking, embroidering, taking long walks, listening to music, monthly ladies' night with friends... |

| Travel? I love travel--let’s go! Anyway, born in Orange County, California, I grew up primarily in the deep South of Mississippi and Louisiana. I lived in Arizona for several years before marrying Sean via SGS and moving to Indiana, right across the Ohio River from Kentucky, his native state. I’ve traveled through several of the states—all the Southern border of the US and a bit of the east coast-- and I long to travel even more. | |
Original Response: I come from a stable, godly Christian family of many generations, though my parents, sister, and I are the only ones who (at this time) are Reformed or Presbyterian. My father is a minister in the PCA; he and my mother have a sound, stable marriage. I have a younger sister, 5 yrs my junior, who is also committed to the reformed faith (and Tolkein, we both love LotR!). We’re very close, but I would be willing to relocate.
Spring 2009: I have been married for almost a year (since May 31, 2008) to Sean Burkes, whom I met on SGS. 10 month after marriage, in March 2009, we welcomed our firstborn, a son, Theodore. He'll probably grow up in this area, although Sean and I are open to moving west if the Lord ever opened that door. |

| I was engaged December 29th, 2007 to Sean Burkes, whom I met on SGS March 2007. Back then under "looking for" I listed "marriage and children" We met in person the first time over labor day weekend, and it was on our fourth visit (and my first to his town, where I stayed at the home of one of his elders) that he proposed! We were married by my father May 31, 2008 and welcomed our first child March 11, 2009 |
