Raised in a Christian home, the Lord has been my Sovereign Heavenly Father and Friend all my life. I professed faith publically in Christ as my Saviour at age 11, have served as a missionary for one year overseas, and seek to glorify Him in every area of my life. The Lord is my Saviour, Companion, Strength, and Ruler of my life. My Christian walk is consistent but not always as long in the Word on a daily basis as it should be. He is molding me and growing me spiritually.
God's sovereignty secures and anchors my life. He chose me--what a thought! The fact that He is the One Who gives saving faith to people I share with has been a tremendous load off my shoulders. This enables me to be free for the Spirit to open conversations and let HIM use them as He wills.
Yes, my Quiet Time is before bed at night. Currently using R. C. Sproule's TABLETALK. Was just given a new book on prayer which looks excellent.
This varies according to my season in life. Right now I appreciate the Proverbs 31 woman who smiles at the future. Since the Lord is beginning to open doors to the possibility of missions after I retire, it is an exciting time of life for me!
I am content much of the time. Paul was right: there are ways a single person can minister (with greater flexibility and single-mindedness) than a married woman can; there are also limitations, however, to a single woman's ministry. An encourager by nature, I would love to encourage a man called to ministry of some sort, working and praying with him in God's vineyard!
Four qualities are fidelity, honesty, compassion, and a certain amount of wisdom (not always, though!! ;-) !!)
Sharing the Lord and my church with others. Loving and being with my own family members who live in other states whenever possible. Communicating with friends and encouraging others to love and good works.
God having chosen me to be His child, my family--both blood-related, missionary "relatives" and Covenant-family at church--and my job.
In another person: honesty, faithfulness, optimism, humor, perseverance, calmness. I'm flexible, optimistic, compassionate.
Probably my son, because the miracle of birth after a miscarriage and the actuality of being a mother taught me dependence on the Lord like nothing else. Being a "single mother" after my husband left drove me to my knees on a regular basis. Now being a mother-in-law is teaching new things!
Our marriage vows were broken for a number of years' time before I found out. It was a biblical divorce, he was disciplined by our church. He repented two years after he had remarried. It's been 15 years. The Lord has provided in wonderful ways and taught me many things--about Himself and about me. Our God still hates divorce and my heart breaks for those going through it. It's a blessing to share with other single mothers the compassion and love the Lord has given me. For a number of years we had a Single Moms' group at our church through which some learned that the Lord and the fellowship of His church was enough to help them raise godly children.
I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew He moved my soul to seek Him, seeking me. It was not I that found, O Savior true; No, I was found of Thee. Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold; I walked and sank not on the storm vexed sea. ’Twas not so much that I on Thee took hold, As Thou, dear Lord, on me. I find, I walk, I love, but oh, the whole Of love is but my answer, Lord, to Thee! For Thou were long beforehand with my soul, Always Thou lovest me. Anonymous, circa 1880. This hymn’s first publication was apparently in Boston, Massachusetts, in Holy Songs, Carols and Sacred Ballads. (This information is from cyberhymnal.org)
I work in a professional training program in a medical school setting. I've been at this university for 15 years and thoroughly enjoy the challenge and mental stimulation of being able to learn about the human body God has created. God placed me here and sometimes gives opportunities to share eternal truths. I do so much love the people I work with! This work is very fulfilling and is my ministry and missionfield until He moves me somewhere else.
To serve God as long as I can function, drawing others to Him. He may be calling me to return to missions after retirement. Or, if in this country I'd love to be an encourager and helpmeet to a godly man, to share our home for ministry, meals, and discussions. To have someone with whom to discuss things (and answer my many questions!)
Leisure time is spent reading or on the computer if alone. Walking and "catching up" with friends or (on occasion) going out to eat with them is also fun. I live simply and enjoy meeting strangers who then become friends and am excessively wealthy in friends! It's hard to keep up with them all! I love reading aloud--to children or adults or listening to someone read--or books on tape in the car.
Born in Virginia, I've traveled through Europe, lived in South Korea and Japan (during the end of the Korean War.) Would enjoy seeing more of our own country, perhaps by car with a friend -- taking our time (and pictures!) with no agenda, stopping at whatever sign or view catches our attention!
My family lives in other states, but within 4-6 hours of me. I'll go where He wants me to go--and stay where He wants me to stay! I grew up overseas in Korea, so tend to have a multicultural view of life.
Singing with my autoharp, working in my yard, having strangers over for dinner to get to know them better.
I LOVE big dogs and most animals but have no pets at present. Love the outside birds--currently goldfinches, cardinals, hummingbirds, chickadees, towhees, two large hawks sometimes. Am not partial to cats at all--perhaps because some have killed "my" birds. Not "into" sports or watching much TV. Enjoy attending retreats or conferences, discussions, musical productions, movies. Make friends easily--was once jokingly told I get Christmas cards from people who ride elevators with me. (Not true but almost...)
