I was about 11 when the Lord drew me to himself. Russ, my fiance'e was 18 and had just graduated from highschool. We both came from very loving stable homes and praise God for such a blessing.
Both Russ and I have always believed in the Doctrines of Grace from the time we were first converted. These doctrines make God so "big", glorious, awesome. They draw our heart to praise and worship him. They also equip us to live in this world with faith, hope, and love.
I'm currently reading William Jay's Morning Exercises, a gift from Russ for my birthday. We are also studying the book of Ephesians together.
I am no longer single. I was married to Russ on June 30, 2007. Praise the Lord for his bountiful mercy and grace!! I also thank Dean for being willing to devote time and money to make this ministry available.
Laura: Loyal, Honest, Kind, Cheerful Russ: Dependable, hard-working, disciplined, easy-going.
Laura: I am most passionate about knowing God and serving Him in the calling he's given me. That calling is now being a wife and soon to be mother. We continue to be amazed at how the Lord has chosen to bless us so quickly after so many years of waiting. We got pregnant on our honeymoon! :) It has felt like a whirlwind and everything is still sinking in but we praise God for his goodness and His timing.
Laura: The Lord, My future husband Russ My Family Russ: Grace & mercy, Bible, Laura, friends, my dogs, good health. I know that's more than 3 but it's hard to narrow it to 3.
Laura said: The most important thing to me is that he be someone who loves the Lord with all His heart, wants to keep growing in his walk with God and desires to practically live out what he believes. I love reading Christian biographies, church history, theology books and I want to be able to talk about what I'm reading with my husband. I think being able to communicate and making the marriage relationship a priority is important. It would be very important to me that I meet someone who is willing and able to be the leader of the family. I enjoy humor and even some sarcasm. I would like to find someone who can have as much fun goofing around at a park or wherever as he can have talking deep theology. As for my personality...you could always write and make an assessment for yourself...I think I'm someone who is kind and caring. I'm very loyal to the people I love. I'm intelligent and a good communicator. I love to laugh and have fun. I enjoy serving others and helping them. I enjoy being hospitable and making people feel welcome and at ease when I'm hosting things. I can be shy and don't like being the center of attention. I have pretty strong opinions about most things, but I'm also good at listening and learning. I think I have a pretty laid back personality in that I don't get my feelings hurt very easily and I'm able to take a lot of teasing etc. That probably comes from the fact that I have 3 brothers and a dad who love to tease. Russ said: In general I find people who are easy-going, spiritual, and introverted most pleasing to be around. I am usually attracted to women who are kind, modest, with a good sense of humor, active and energetic, women who enjoy the simple things in life (dress casually, not materialistic, etc.), those who enjoy the country or rural way of life, women who tend to be homebody types, women who are intelligent and like good conversation especially regarding spiritual or Biblical matters. As for me....I would describe myself as easy-going, introverted, comical, smart, pleasant to be around, friendly, disciplined, hard-working. I have plenty of negative personality traits too but I'd rather not mention them right now :)
I am now married to a wonderful man who loves the Lord with all his heart. I am 38 and he is 46. We are expecting our first child in April. From the time we were both teenagers we desired to be married and prayed that the Lord would provide us with a spouse. He chose not to answer that prayer for over 20 years. In those 20 years we learned much. Through the faithfulness of the Lord we grew in faith and trust. The Lord used our singleness to drive us to himself. Through our singleness he taught us his all sufficiency, he taught us what it means to have joy in the midst of sorrow, peace in the midst of confusion, blessedness in the midst of deep loneliness and disappointment. We are rejoicing in this time of bountiful earthly blessing. The Lord is good and he does give good things to his children.
Laura said: I am a principal at a small classical Christian school. I've been here for 7 years. Growing up there were two things I said I wanted to do. One was to get married and be a mom. If that didn't happen, I said I would be a teacher. So I became a teacher and then a principal. I do love my work and I'm thankful that the Lord is using me to influence lives for His glory. I love classical education. Russ said: Information Technology Manager. I've been in the IT field since college. I was a Math major in college. There are some things about the IT field that I enjoy and some that I don't. I'm an analytical person and I like solving techincal problems and I enjoy the technical challenges of IT work.
Laura said: Life long goals...The big one is to grow in my knowledge and love for God. I want to be involved in people's lives, helping others know more of God. Everything else is pretty secondary. I really would like to get to England, Scotland, and Wales one day and go to all the church history places. Russ said: I guess my goals have changed over the years. From now on I simply want to serve the Lord where ever I am and in whatever capacity He would choose.
Laura said: Well my job keeps me pretty busy. However I love reading. I like biographies of Christians and of important people in history. I also enjoy the fiction of PG Wodehouse and D. Sayers. I love Banner of Truth books especially anything by Lloyd-Jones, Spurgeon or Ian Murray. I also like to travel and see historical places. I like being outdoors and doing outdoor things, playing racquetball, of course I love the beach. I like going to Cardinal baseball games. I'll never like any other baseball team except the Cardinals!!! I also have 13 nieces and nephews so I spend time with them just playing, going to the zoo or other places like that. I enjoy cooking and doing household type things as well but that is not really the focus of my life right now so I don't do those things very often. Russ said: Reading, working around the house, watching sports, working out at the gym. I enjoy attending college football games. I have 2 dogs and enjoy playing outside with them. I like being outside and working in the yard and "tinkering" on different home projects. I like some board games.
This will be one of the many funny things we laugh about from our courting days. I first met Russ on Christian Cafe. I contacted him about a year and a half ago. He wrote back and said he was not interested in me and recommended this sight. Because of his recommendation, I became a member of SGS. A year later Russ saw my profile on SGS and renewed his membership just so he could send me an e-mail. He did not even remember that he had already met me before. One thing is for sure. The Lord has his time and no one can stand in the way of His sovereign providence!
Laura said: I am the oldest of 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys. Four of my siblings are married. We are close and involved in each others lives. I think my family is the greatest blessing the Lord has given me, and although I would not want to relocate, I believe that as a wife my role would be to support my husband in his calling, and so if that meant that I had to move, I would. Now: Russ lives in NC and so I am living there with him. It has been an adjustment but one that was in many ways easier than I had anticipated. There have been times of sadness and homesickness but it has been a homesickness without being lonely, something I had not experienced before. I'm so thankful that I can say I'm not lonely and that my husband truely is my best friend.
One of the things both Russ and I found so amazing was that there was so much theological agreement and philosophical, life issues agreement. It was a delight to discover how much we agreed on despite the fact that we were both older and had formed many convictions apart from one another. Our son William was born by C-section on Feb. 21. Laura developed severe toxemia and so he had to be delivered early. We praise God because even though William was so small he had no complications whatever and came home from the hospital only 1 week after he was born. It's not even been a year since we were married but the Lord has proven over and over his great faithfulness and his absolute sovereignty over our lives. We are so thankful he is a good and loving Father.
