I would like to have children one day, AND/OR would gladly accept others.
How old I was, I don't know. I was baptized as an infant in the Christian Reformed Church, and made profession of faith in a Christian Reformed church at age 29. As with all other Christians, I am still growing, and not mature yet. that won't occur until I get to glory.
The Three Forms of Unity (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort) are what I was brought up on. These are beautiful confessions. I also love the Westminster Standards. Being Reformed is MUCH more than a belief in ULTIP. (This is what the Canons of Dort actually are, and the more proper name than TULIP. ULTIP is how the Canons are presented. It all begins with our election.)
I am presently reading Herman Veldkamp's book, "Children of the Lord's Day" which is a commentary on the Heidelberg Catechism, and am going through this in several yahoo forums to which I belong. I'm also doing a study on the shadows and types of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, and using Dr Gerard Van Groningen's book, "Messianic Revelation in the Old Testament." Also, reading Calvin's Institutes. And, studying justification and the differences between the classic Reformed teaching and the New Perspective (also the Federal Vision), which, sadly, is creeping into Christ's church, It is an issue that is of vital importance. How anyone can insist that we are justified by faith PLUS works is beyond me. (5 Feb 07)
I think KellyC said it best! In reading Scripture, we see all these Bible people, and we should be able to see that these men are types of Christ. In one way or another, they all shadow the Person and work of Christ. Yet, they foreshadowed Him imperfectly.
Yes, though it isn't very easy, and despite what Debbie Maken's book says. She may quote people like Calvin, but that doesn't make it a good book. In fact, she quotes him (along with Scripture and the Westminster Larger) out of context. And it makes me wonder why she didn't use William Hendricksen as one of her sources. Her "exegesis" is really "eisegesis." I'm not opposed to marriage, however. But---I'm also not looking to meet and marry someone within a couple months. It takes much patience and much getting to know someone. And if I ever do date someone, she must adhere to either the Three Forms of Unity (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort) or the Westminster Standards. And anyone embracing the New Perspectives/Auburn Avenue Theology/Federal vision/Norman Shepherd Theology are out of bounds. Exodus 2:1, Amos 3:3, and Mark 3:25 are very important regarding this. A word about contentment and Genesis 2:18. What was not good was that man was alone. Singleness was NOT the problem. What God had created with the "help-meet" was someone to complement him, to work with him, to live in communion with him. Marriage is not the only cure for singleness. We were created to be IN COMMUNION with each other. Friendships are also part of this communion. But please do not think I'm against marriage.
One thing is the railroad. No, I've never worked for the RR. However, ever since I was a kid, I always loved trains! When I was a kid, and we lived in Chicago, I always ran to the back porch of our apartment when I heard a train whistle, and watches a train pass. I especially am fascinated by Chicago's Rapid transit trains (called the "L"). Also---the music of YES. One will never see any more talented musicians than Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, and Alan White. And especially the way they play music in such difficult time signatures!
There are 2 points to consider here: First, Psalm 24 says, "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof." This means that all that has been invented, God already knew about, and He had already created it. All that we have (even the smallest thing that we have) has been given to us by Him, and we are to be good stewards of all that he has given to us. It is He who owns all that we have. We are only using these things temporarily, and will not be taking them with us upon our leaving this earth. We will be called to account of these things that the Lord has given to us. Second: I thess 5:12 (I think) says that in everything, give thanks. The key word here is EVERYTHING. Are we thankful when we are plentiful? Yes. Are we thankful when good things happen to us? yes. But let's look at the flipside. How about when we lack? Or when bad things happen? Are we thankful then? (and I have to answer this for myself, also.) All of us have bad things happen in our lives. We all go through our trials. The letters of Peter describe the Christian life in a time of trial. And we are to be thankful for these trials, because they strengthen our faith. Not only does the sun shine on His people, but it also rains on His people as well. So, I can't pick 3 things. I can't put one thing above the other.
One is the Rev Dr Peter Ymen De Jong. He was a very gifted preacher and served CRC churches in Preakness NJ, 3 CRC's in Grand Rapids MI, one in Hamilton ON, and 3 in Iowa. He was also a founding member of Mid America Reformed Seminary, and was a frequent speaker at conferences and rallies. He briefly was a missionary to South India, which was one of his passions. He also wrote more than half a dozen educational books, inclusing probably his greatest work, a 2-volume set called "The Church's Witness to the World," which is a commentary on the Belgic Confession. He also was an editor of the OUTLOOK magazine. Upon retirement, he became a member of the church I'm at (Lynwood United Reformed Church), and we always talked doctrine and the church. He always enjoyed answering my questions. he was also special because we shared the same birthday. He was translated to the Church Triumphant late Sunday afternoon, August 28, 2005. It wasn't known to the church, however, until the next day. He will be missed. As for my dad, he wasn't any Christian influence at all. He was Roman Catholic all throughout his life, and despised the church. My mother was the one who, by God's providence (see below), made sure I was raised in the Christian Reformed Church (before she---the CRC---lost her orthodoxy) and saw to it I was educated in the Christian grade and high schools.
Ha! The "holy hand grenade scene" from The Holy Grail is classic! Some lines from some very good Yes songs: "Speak to me of summer, long winter's longer, than time can remember, showing forth in old accustomed ways." (from Starship Trooper) "I beg to leave to hear your wonderous stories." (from Wonderous Stories) Some favorite Bible verses (all using the NKJV): "It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. Therefore, having been justified BY FAITH, we have peace with god through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." (Romans 4:22b-5:2) "For BY GRACE you have been saved THROUGH FAITH, and that NOT OF YOURSELVES; it is the gift of God, NOT OF WORKS, lest any one should boast. For we are HJis workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:8-10) "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years drawn nigh, when thou shalt say, 'I have no pleasure in them...' " (Ecclesiastes 12:1, KJV) Below, I also wrote out Lord's Day 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism, a GRAND confession! Lord's Day 10 (dealing with the Providence of God) and 23 (dealing with justification by faith alone) are also great. But none of the HC can be taken separately. All 52 LD's flow together and cannot be separated. There are also Belgic confession Articles that I love.
I have been a school custodian since November 23, 1984.
Take a bike ride along trails (I don't do the long distance thing) or maybe go to downtown Chicago.
I am also an avid fan of Fox News! I'm so glad that there is a news organization that will be fair and balanced!
In the suburbs, In a small town
I was born in Chicago and lived in this area all my life. I've been to almost half of the continental US. the 2 best places I've been to were the Grand Tetons in Wyoming in 1976 and Washington DC on my class trip in October 1978, my senior year of high school. (Wait! Indiana and Michigan don't count. I live 2 blocks from Indiana, and my oldest brother lives in MI.)
I have 2 brothers and a sister. My 2 brothers attend CRC churches. One is solidly Reformed and conservative. The other is very liberal in his theology. I have no ideas what my sister is, other than non-Reformed. She doesn't think baptism is important, only faith. As for relocation...nope.

"What is your only comfort in life and in death? "That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own but belong unto my faithful Savior Jesus Christ; who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; yea, all things must be subservient to my salvation, wherefore by His Holy spirit He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready, henceforth, to live unto Him." ---Heidelberg Catechism Lord's Day 1, Question and answer 1 Also, I have added photos to my profile. Please ask me for the password to the Private Images section. I have seen on other's profiles a questioon about ages. I have no big hang-up about age difference.
