Met on SGS!!!
The Lord brought me to the point of surrendering to Him as my Lord and Savior on Dec. 9, 1995. Our great God brought Frank to repentance and surrender June 17,2009. Isn't He awesome?!
The truths that "the Doctrines of Grace" represent are nothing BUT life-changing. :) I have never actually known anything but these truths, even while unrepentant and unsaved. Growing in the knowledge of the Truth, internalizing it, focusing on Christ as He changes me - making the knowledge of these truths an integral part of the warp and woof of my being - a very daily task. :)
We are both growing in applying the discipline of daily time in the Word and with the Lord. For devotions we may each use any one of: Streams in the Desert, My Utmost for His Highest, Spurgeon's Morning and Evening, MacArthur's Drawing Near. Together we have finished Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, and are currently working our way through What Did You Expect? by Paul Tripp.
Cheryl's favorite: Paul. Partly because the Pauline writings are among some of my favorite Scriptures, but also because he was so real! He grieved deeply at the hurt of a church who turned on him. He admitted when he was depressed. He got down in the dirt with those who needed him to come alongside of them and help. God used him mightily, in spite of his life-long regret and burden of having been the key instrument for killing brothers and sisters in Christ. He was strong, but gentle and loving. Stood without compromise, but so eloquently conveys his longing and desire for human companionship and others to walk his journey with him. Knew His Lord intimately, and had learned the hard lessons that came with growth. Frank's favorite:
Nope, we are not! I (Cheryl)am learning that being content has a lot more to do with being thankful in everything, and trusting my Lord - than with what my circumstances are. The Lord has blessed me with the love of a special man, but contentment is still an issue because of 2000 measly miles between us! ;) I STILL need to accept that this is where God has us, at this time, for His purposes. I continue to need to work at surrendering to Him and living in the moment He's put me in; but still anticipating and praying! :D
I think they would say something along the lines of transparent/real, caring, wise, good listener - and to be honest, I'd probably have to add "talker" and "asks lots of questions" :)
*Rightly dividing the Word! *I'm passionate about nouthetic counseling and the bankruptcy of secular psychology or any system that tries to integrate secular psychology within "Christian counseling." *I will always have a heart for missions and a deep involvement and interest in the growing up of the Body of Christ within any context. Growing up as a missionary kid *might* have something to do with this. ;) Whole, natural nutrition; chemical/toxin free living, complementary health care.
My parents and the wonderful example they've set for me of a godly, loving marriage. My salvation and God's grace and mercy and blessings. The Bible, God's Word
God has brought us into each others' lives, and if it is His provident will for us, someday hope to marry.
My former pastor - John MacArthur. (former because I moved :)) Having sat under his gifted biblical exposition for years, the Lord has used his teaching, life and character to teach me much, and work in my life.
Who would have guessed what God was up to when He brought us into each others' sphere here on SGS in Sept 2007?! We have learned that being in a relationship highlights your own weaknesses and sinfulness, and gives AMPLE opportunity to be instruments of God's grace in each others' lives!!
We'll have to make up a list together sometime
Cheryl: WAH telephone triage RN for OB/GYN medical practices nationally. Frank: looking for a job that will enable him to move closer to where Cheryl is.
Bringing glory to the Lord through our relationship; learning to be servants of the Master and to each other.
Talking to each other on Skype. :) Cheryl: reading, cooking, watching Food Network and other cable channels. Frank: watching anything sports related, doing internet searches, listening to music
Cheryl: Born in Ft Wayne, IN and traveled to: Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic (lived there), Colombia (lived there), Haiti, Russia: Krasnoyarsk (Siberia), Kiev, and Moscow. Airports in Frankfurt and Poland. :) Lived in CA and CO and traveling back and forth across the US a few times in my life. :) Frank: Born in Ohio. Lived in Ohio, VA, NC. Traveled to SC, Seattle, DC, CO
Cheryl: Missionary kid, grew up overseas. Mom and Dad are living overseas and the rest of us are spread out all over the place! :) I'm the oldest of 4 - and have 10 nieces and nephews. "Distance" is becoming a dirty word :), but the Lord has me stay here while He accomplishes His purposes. Frank: Preacher's kid, grew up in Ohio, VA, NC. Half of the family live in NC, one brother and family in Vermont, other brother and family in MS. Ready to move as soon as God makes the way.
Frank: anything related to airplanes, Duke, or Spurs basketball :) Cheryl: relating to people :) I'd rather sit down and have a face-to-face convo with you than "do" anything. :)
Yep!! Cheryl has been a charter member of SGS since the year it started (the tag on the profile is wrong!) - joined just after Laurens did. :) Frank has been a member since 2007.
