Age 17 at Young Life's Star Ranch. Fell through the cracks in college, and the Lord arrested me at age 26. Life has been an adventure eversince!! I love my relationship with the Lord for what He has done, and though at times, I am complacent and/or rebellious He is patient and draws me to Himself quickly (or I am learning to listen to Him "quicker").
Freed me from huge guilt trips, and have refocused my outlook regarding serving people out of joy rather than out of duty--to earn God's approval. Plus, life is not about me==but about God's glory and His church!!
Yes. Currently, reading the "Sabbath readings" of the Tenakh (Torah, Prophets, and Writings). It's interesting what prophecies of Messiah are left out of normal Jewish services.
I have two: Esther--risk-taker/saw beyond simple obedience to enjoying God's blessing. and Ruth--also a risk-taker/a caregiver who stepped out of her need to survive personally in order to care for another--she labored hard to make provisions for her mother-in-law. Also, her story demonstrates God's grace toward one who in the eyes of humanity did not deserve to be "in the family"--yet, God blessed her abundantly!
I am content being single because the Lord has convinced me after all of these years that He is with me and I am whole because I am His child (I did not always feel that way). I would love to enjoy the companionship and love relationship with a special man--as God has designed--I know that for both a husband and wife--their lives are enriched by such a relationship and I would love to experience such.
I've not asked them but have been told the following: faithful, steady, patient, happy.
Investing myself in those relationships that God gives me (family, friends, students) and living each day to the fullest -- I am adventuresome and have a zest to learn/experience/enjoy every moment of each day and what the day bring forth.
Redemption in Christ (I understand my need for God's grace.) A wonderful family and great friends. The majesty of creation (including peaceful, scenic beauty and God's interesting animal kingdom--observing how they survive/forage for food and live in communities).
I enjoy a person who is vibrantly aware of his relationship with God. He is confident of this, and bold in his pursuits (or callings) as God directs. People describe me as faithful, comfortable, safe, a good confidante.
My nursing school professor, a German Jew who escaped the concentration camps, but lost many of her family to them. She "mentored" me in the nursing profession and taught me the skills of discipling others. She is now 91, and asks me questions regarding "death and afterlife" often. There's a lot more to this story.
Never married, though came close just before I became a Christian. The fella with whom I was in love was in Vietnam shell-shock and was ill-prepared for a marital relationship. (I, too, was not ready for marriage--had many things to learn yet.) He was a great guy. We were not Christians; shortly after we broke up, I became a committed Christian and the rest of my life has been an adventure--more later on that if you're interested. I learned from that relationship that chemistry cannot always be trusted, and how powerful and wonderful it is at the same time!! At that time, I made a decision not to close my heart but to remain open to life's possibilities as God would direct. My life has proved to be exciting, and mundane all at the same time!
Psalm 78:70-72 indicates to me God's sovereign hand and how He nurtures each one of us to become the person He created each of us to be.
Registered nurse for 16 years--absolutely LOVED it! Answered a call to become a full-time Bible teacher and worked with college students in a denominational campus ministry for 14 years--enjoyed that, too. Though I've not had children of my own, parents were gracious to loan me their college-age children, and I "feel" I literally have hundreds of grown children all over the world. Since 2002, I have been teaching in a seminary--Christian education classes, and enjoy this line of work--though it has been hard--mentally challenging!!
I would love to travel, learning history first-hand. I would love to marry, learning what it means to "be in relationship" as God designed marriage for man and woman. Professionally, I've accomplished most of my dreams.
Swimming, exercise in a gym (aerobic and weight-training), walking by mountain streams (mild-hiking), horseback riding, travel (to the British Isles during June of 2008). I love board games, cards. Holidays are fun times for me to watch my great-nieces/nephews play and to join in with them.
In the suburbs
I was born in Atlanta, Ga. I have traveled to Israel (x2) including Sinai Peninsula; France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Greece, England, Nassau, the United States (including Hawaii). I LOVE to travel!!
Most of my family is in the southeast; a close cousin in the midwest. I have lived in the southeast all of my life, but love the adventure of travel. To be honest, I don't know how I feel about relocating.
