I would like to have children one day.
Until I was 10 years old, my mom took my brother and me to church. We went to a Southern Baptist church and we went 2-3 times a week (basically to every service or event). However, I believe that my mom was not a Christian and she eventually stopped going to church except for holidays. Thankfully, she goes from time to time now and sometimes sits under the teaching of the Word. I made a profession of faith when I was 7 and thought of myself as a Christian all of my life. However, I was 21 when I really understood my sin and God's marvelous grace. I am thankful that we continue to grow as Christians each day. I look forward to continually becoming more Christ-like and walking closer with Him. It would be nice if it could be written of me at my death, "She walked with God." :)
God's grace affects everything. It is only by that grace that I live and have my being.
I usually start my day with prayer, Bible reading and singing a Psalm. I try to close the day with the same Psalm and prayer, but often I forget about singing the Psalm, or need to be quite because others in the house are sleeping.
Not my favorite per say, but I always enjoy reading Ruth. She is a good example of joyful contentment and esteeming others better.
I am content. When I was younger I thought that marriage was something I would need to be happy. Thankfully the Lord through His enduring love has proved that I have my fullness in Him. That being said, I also very much desire to be married and have a family and have a hard time imagining a life without those.
Kind, loyal, Berean-like, passionate, forthright, adventurous. :)
I hope it won't sound contrived to anyone on this site, but I am most passionate about serving Christ. Unfortunately, I fall short of loving and serving Him as I ought. I am also very passionate about caring for people in need and being a good steward of this earth that God has given us.
My salvation, joy in this life, and the joy of being used by Christ to advance His kingdom, especially in ministry to the internationals that I get to meet and share my life with.
Honesty, humility, loyalty, passion (for Christ in particular), adventurous,...
My maternal grandmother...she loved me and cared for me as a mother. Love is a powerful thing.
Unrealistic expectations and perhaps a lack of preparedness for marriage and lack of wisdom on how to get there. Martin Luther wrote to Wolfgang Reissenbuch, March 1525: "We are all made for marriage...I fancy that human fear and timidity stand in your way. It is said that it takes a bold man to venture to take a wife. What you need above all else, then, is to be encouraged, admonished, urged, incited, and made bold. Why should you delay, my dear and reverend sir, and continue to weigh the matter in your mind? It must, it should, and will happen in any case. Stop thinking about it and go to it right merrily."
I love the Psalms. My favorite changes in different seasons. I don't particularly have a favorite at the moment. My day does not feel complete unless I have sung a Psalm in praise of our Lord. Here is a glimpse of some other favs: I used to think As birds take wing They sing through life so why can't we? You cling to this You claim the best If this is what you're offering I'll take the rain -by REM I'll take the rain I'm pining for the moon. And what if there were two Side by side in orbit Around the fairest sun? That bright, tight forever drum could not describe nightswimming. -by REM Nightswimming Sorry, two REM in a row, but that's what came to mind first tonight. :) This poem became a favorite of mine when I first read it as a college freshman. It reminds me of how insensitive and self-centered we can be and encourages me to take time to risk and care more. Stevie Smith - Not Waving But Drowning Nobody heard him, the dead man, But still he lay moaning: I was much further out than you thought And not waving but drowning. Poor chap, he always loved larking And now he's dead It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way, They said. Oh, no no no, it was too cold always (Still the dead one lay moaning) I was much too far out all my life And not waving but drowning.
For roughly 11 years I have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in different venues. I love it! I am currently working on my PhD in motivation for second language learning. Lord willing, I have one more year left. (as of November 2010).
I wish to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I can learn what it has to teach, and not, when I come to die, discover that I have not lived. I do not wish to live what is not life, living is so dear; nor do I wish to practice resignation, unless it is quite necessary. I want to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that is not life… (A rewritten version of a Walden excerpt, original author Henry David Thoreau)
I like outdoor activities and sports (gardening, walking, hiking, etc.), so I try to do some of those every week. I also tend to read when I have some extra time.
I was born in Northern California. I have traveled to Canada, Mexico, Japan, S. Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Cypress, England, Hungary, France, and the Netherlands. Some places I only stayed for a matter of hours or a few days and others I stayed a month or longer.
I love my family (ies). My natural family is all in CA I would like to spend more time with them, but already live away so relocating is not a problem from that aspect. My family in Christ is very important to me. I would want to be in a place where there would be spiritual support. Also a consideration, I started a PhD program in education at a local university in the Fall 07 semester, that doesn't rule out relocating, but it does make it tougher. I have finished my course work, but still need to take the dissertation proposal class.
