I grew up in a happy Methodist church, and have good memories of my time there. Despite "asking Jesus into my heart" one summer after camp at age 11, being confirmed and baptized at age 13, and yearning after the Word in high school, I know now that I didn't really know the Lord Jesus Christ, and I was ungrounded. But God was definitely drawing me to Him and prepared my heart to yearn for Him even then. I believe I know the day that God in His mercy granted me eternal life. I had the sense of having something to stand on for the first time. Praise the Lord for His irresistible grace! He is patient, forgiving, steadfast, and such a loving Father....
A friend took the time to share with me the Doctrines of Grace. I was so thankful, it was the biggest picture of God I’d ever heard! A powerful God. My own testimony and experience finally made sense. I feel even more desirous that others would hear and know these doctrines. Understanding His Sovereignty paints for me a clearer picture of His love, and what it means to enter into His rest.
I want to read the Bible all the way through in a year. No other text is living and active like God’s Word, truly our food. It's amazing that no one on earth, not the greatest of minds, would ever plumb the depths of it. I've often enjoyed taking walks to pray, or reading my Bible and writing in my journal on a long hike in a beautiful place.
Recently I've thought a lot about the various women who encounter Jesus in the Gospels. The woman who wept at Jesus’ feet, gave him all she had, opened her heart totally to Him - He not only allowed this "display", He blessed her, forgave her, and honored her before the others present – I am that redeemed woman and can only begin to fathom His grace and love. Her mind was on Him alone--I yearn for that passion for Him!
I had over the years learned some contentment about being single and can appreciate the blessings (freedom, focus to follow the Lord unfettered, etc)! When I read 1 Cor 7, I hear Paul saying to us lovingly, Do not be concerned or anxious about these things. But God called me me to marriage! I believe it is because at this point God knew I could serve the Lord in a greater capacity married than being single! I married a man who is living purposefully for the Lord, and has prayed for a helpmate in that, and senses the Lord has led him to me. I am striving to be his partner, a support and blessing to him in his life. This is a new adventure! One of the attractions I have towards marriage, besides the opportunity to join and live together for His greater glory, is for that element of spiritual intimacy, someone to guide me in sound doctrine, challenge me, teach gently.
Open and honest, nurturing or encouraging, loyal, creative. They have also described me as complex, with multiple layers.
I hope it is true to say that in my heart, I am most passionate about God’s Truth and His word. I yearn to really understand it, to be equipped to share it, to know Him more. As for life in general, going to the local café for some tea and a long talk about such things. Yummy food, good simple living, time with friends, being outside in God’s creation, art and beautiful things....I love to be with my husband doing most anything!
The privilege of having a personal relationship with God and of experiencing His love...the unconditional love of my husband....the love support of my parents throughout my life and the deep friendships the Lord has blessed me with.
A passion to live for the Truth. And a fun sense of humor is always good! A person who has a sense of purpose, a passion that drives them, or an adventuresome vein. Godly leadership in it's various forms and flavors. As a woman, I respect and admire a man's godly calling to negotiate life, “make a way in this world” and yet seek the Lord each step of the way. (I believe that since I wrote this, I have found a man that fits this bill! Tim is an incredible man.) Wisdom is something I pray for for myself, and honor in another person. In any relationship I value mutual trust and respect, and truly appreciate a sensitive heart of compassion, empathy, and mercy. I love possibilities and new ideas, have an artistic streak, an adventuresome spirit, I've been told I am an encourager, and can be a deep thinker.
My husband Tim, he is the most influential person in my life now. I learn a lot from him. Marge, who is 72 and has so much passion, joy, strength, and love for others has also been a great inspiration to me. In recent years I have been so thankful to have open, loving, wise, strong friends. Each of them has impacted me in a special way. They inspire me, challenge me, reveal their hearts to me, support me and I learn so much from them. I respect them and care about them deeply.
In recent years I realized I wanted to focus on my relationship and intimacy with the Lord, for Him to be my One, and to open my heart more deeply before the Lord for Him to work in it and strengthen me.
What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. -- Tozer So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. -- John 8:36 "To all who are spiritually weak and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to whomsoever will come, this church opens wide her doors and offers welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus." -- My church's welcome statement Hebrews 4:12 - My favorite book of the Bible would have to be Hebrews.
I have worked in University student advising, research, non-profit administration. I enjoy writing and mentoring. I'm not a career-minded woman, but I do like to be involved in a project, working for a cause or a passion, I would love to work alongside or in the background supporting my husband's work.
First of all I reign myself in with verses like James 4:13-15 or Pr 19:21! That said, some things that come to mind are: -- Meditating on the Gospel and sharing it -- To know the Word of God more deeply and have a solid grasp of sound doctrine -- Participating in a mission project to Europe with my husband -- Mentoring young women (something I really love) -- Maintaining a debt-free lifestyle -- Staying healthy and in good shape
I like to relax and live at a comfortabe pace, with time to smell the roses and spend time with people. But things I've enjoyed at different times in my life are: -- Mornings, breakfast outside -- Long talks with friends -- Adventures in international cuisine ;-) -- Hikes or walks and to get out in nature with my husband -- Strolling through a museum -- Small town festivals, outdoor music -- Travel in various countries, walking through the backstreets, learning about the communities -- Local neighborhood hangouts -- Retreats, church camps -- Ballroom/latin/swing dancing with my husband -- It would be fun to learn how to canoe or kayak
I was born in Arlington, Texas. I have been blessed to travel to Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, France, England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Spain, Belgium, Venezuela, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Japan. I had other opportunitites to go to Turkey and Australia but alas, did not take them. I hope to travel more with my husband!
When I married Tim, I relocated to St. Louis and I love it! I lived in CA, CO, and Europe for some time. The beauty of God's creation so inspires me. After leaving home for college and living away for some time it was such a blessing to be near my family again for a while, and I cherish the precious "everyday living" time I had with my parents and my brother.
writing, conferences/retreats
-- I pray that this organization is a blessing for many people!
