While other browsers do work with SGS they often do not work as well. You might have some difficulties with how some things display, Java Script, etc. if you use a browser other than FireFox.

Having the latest version of the browser you use is important for both security and updates to critical components that work with websites you visit. Internet Explorer should have all it's updates installed to be safe.

Security software can sometimes block certain scripts required for chat, etc. So it is important to check that your firewall is allowing SGS and it's components to work.

It can also be what version of Windows is being run and which version of IE. Old versions often don't work well. Sometimes there can be small corruptions in your system that happen over time, caused by software you installed for cameras, printers, games, etc. Another thing that happens is that even when you get rid of old programs some things get left behind in the registry file.

With FireFox use the addons they have such as NoScript, CSlite (cookie control), Quick Java, Flash Block, and AdBlock plus. Addons are downloaded within the program and is done through the FireFox menu item "Tools". With those you can control which Java runs and can allow SGS while stopping other sites. Addons are a big reason why FireFox is the preferred browser to use over others.

SGS works best with Mozilla FireFox and can be downloaded for free at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox

It is a large file and not recommended to download by those on Dial-up. If a friend has a DSL or cable modem connection and is willing to download and burn it onto a CD for you that would be the preferable way to obtain it.
