It seems like I have always known Jesus. I was raised in the Roman church by my mom, was lost when I was a teen, but was saved when I was 20 into arminian and prosperity faith. I backslid horribly under this weak doctrine, and was drawn into the Reformed faith in my late thirties. after all these years of being in the evangelical church, it seems like I didn't really "get it" until about two years ago, when a pastor friend of mine started to disciple me. I finally learned how lost I have always been, and how Christ is, or should be, the object of my complete affection. I have grown from being glad I have a ticket to Heaven, to being in a state of striving to see His glory, and striving to be totally captivated by Him. It really does seem like I have had an awakening from my Christian cluelessness to the awareness that God is not just the rewarder, but the reward!
I was repulsed by the Doctrines of Grace for many years, mainly because of my ignorance. When I really studied the Bible, I was amazed at constantly finding the Sovereignty of God all through it. God gave me a love of truth, making me really excited about Calvinism, and giving me a love of, and desire to learn theology, that I had never experienced before. Learning Reformed Theology also brought such a great relief to me in that the Bible finally fit together and "mades sense" like it never had before. The Doctrines of Grace seems to affect everything about my life, in that they phenominally strengthen my faith, hope, love...just everything! It was so good for me to go through the weak doctrines, (arminianism), for so many years, because it really makes me rejoice in the truth!
On my drive to work, and bedtime are my main times to study the Bible and pray. I got an ipod for Christmas, so lately I have been downloading John Piper sermons and lectures. His biographies on Christian heroes have been destroying me, (in a good way). John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards, Spurgeon, Judson, Calvin, David Brainerd, etc..., are teaching me dying and suffering for God. Amazing stuff. I have read the Bible through about three times, and some books more frequently like the Gospels, and Psalms. I just finished reading James, which really rocked my world.
I seem to be partial to Joseph. Reading about his faithfulness to God through all his hardships has humbled me. I wish that God would make me that way one day.
I physically have been "on my own" since 2002, and before things went south in my marriage, I really enjoyed being a husband and having a complete family. I guess my family never will be "perfect" again, but I am romantically inclined, and am hoping for the intimacy of a good marriage. I am waiting for the Lord to send me a soul mate, if He is willing.
Deep thinker, honest, intelligent, fun.
Spiritual matters, and my kids.
That I am God's boy, my three boys, and that I am a boy.
Sweet, stable, thoughtful, encouraging, affectionate, fun, intelligent, deep, outdoorsy, romantic, honest, reliable, open. These pretty much describe me too.
I don't have any big brothers, and my dad wasn't involved in my life much, but I have had two older friends that have influenced me the most. One friend I made at work when I was nineteen, and he shared the gospel with me, and discipled me. God used him to rescue me from spiritual death, and a very lost life. The other friend I met about five years ago, and he discipled me in the reformed faith. He also taught me the gospel driven life. God used him to help me really awaken see the grace of God, nd how much I need it!
I am definately an outdoorsy person. I also like to spend a lot of time with my three sons. We like to swim, (in the Ocean, bay, pools, or tubing creeks), hike, (explore the woods and countryside), ride pedal bikes and dirt bikes, and play two on two soccer anywhere that we can make a small field. I like to play competitive volleyball - any type from beach doubles, to indoor sixes. I don't waste time with television, but I enjoy getting lost in an inspiring movie, (true stories are great!). I like to read World Magazine, and deep creative philosophical stuff like Credenda Agenda, (although I am not into the federal vision stuff). I read books that teach about God, especially John Piper stuff. I enjoy listening to NPR documentaries, and Prairie Home Companion. I like to go to new places. I like outdoor parties and get togethers. I am pretty diverse, so there is too much stuff to list.
