| These days I am really interested in Reformed theology, piety and practice. I also like to exercise and I've become especially fascinated with weight training. What else ... at one time I wanted to be an illustrator and I still have a love for art, especially classical painting. I also love guitar music. I'm not sure I should admit it but lately I've become interested in MMA. | |

I was raised Jewish but my father prided himself on being an atheist and my mother was more like an agnostic. I came to faith in Christ in my mid to late twenties when I realized that my own successes wouldn't necessarily make me happy. I had begun listening to a man on the radio confront his listeners with their sinfulness. I had never heard anything like this before and it really resonated with me as I began to realize that my misery was primarily a result of my sinfulness rather than a psychological deficiency. Shortly thereafter I read Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis and was amazed that I had never heard this stuff (the gospel) before. I think I was a believer by the time I finished the book. I was radically "converted" to the Reformed faith about five years ago through reading "Calvin's Institutes." I'm not thrilled about the question, "How is your Christian walk?" because I'm not sure how one measures that reliably. But I am a member in good standing at my church so I attend the means of grace and I try to keep up my private devotional life also, though I'm not as successful at that as I would like. |
|
| They have radically changed my understanding of Christianity and the Christian life. Understanding that I am truly saved by grace alone through faith alone on account of Christ alone makes an immense difference. |
|
| I try to read a few chapters of the bible daily (I try for a chapter of the OT, a chapter of the NT and some psalms) as well and/or something from one of the Reformed confessions or catechisms and/or a section of Calvin's Institutes. Currently I'm reading through Judges, Psalms and Luke. | |
| Well I don't really have one unless it's the obvious one--Jesus (of course). | |
| I've spent much of my life single and I've tried to be content but I don't really believe I'm cut out for singleness. Marriage has its share of challenges too of course ... | |
| Hmmm ... I think: stability, intelligence, unshakableness in my convictions, focus. And maybe a sense of humor (oops, that's five ...). |
|
| I suppose I'm most passionate about Reformed theology, piety and practice. |

1. I'm most thankful for a gracious God who has purposed to save sinners by grace alone through faith alone on account of the work of Christ alone--and that He has chosen me of all people to inherit salvation. 2. I'm thankful for God's providence in working all things for the good of His people--and thankful for the certainty of His favor in spite of the fact that I continually spurn His goodness. 3. I'm thankful to God for providing me with a reasonable amount of the good things in life. |
|
| This is difficult. There really hasn't been one particular person. Also, I've been as much influenced by people I've read as anything--C.S. Lewis, John Calvin, and others. | |
| There are some things to discuss here but perhaps it's better to hold off for now. | |
There are several things I could share here. I'll start with this gem from the Heidelberg Catechism: Q. 60. How are you righteous before God?
|
|
| I work for a parachurch agency--an independent missions organization. I've been working with them for many years, most recently in an administrative capacity, scheduling our staff to speak in churches. I appreciate the community and my friends there. The work itself is sometimes interesting and often tedious. Honestly, since my "conversion" to the Reformed faith I experience a good deal tension there as we have important theological and philosophical differences now. | |
| I spend lots of time reading, usually theology. I also like exercise, movies, restaurants and hanging out with friends. Lately I'm wanting to do more outdoorsy stuff. | |
| My father and sister are in southern California. They're both basically atheists or agnostics at best. I have already relocated a few times and am willing to do it again for good reason. | |

| I'll ponder this. |
