It is my conviction that many who are presently disposed toward Dispensationalism would not be victims of the system if they were better acquainted and informed about the system and its history - its theological roots and the doctrinal errors it has spawned." — The Late Pastor Emeritus Ernest Reisinger, Grace Baptist Church, Cape Coral, FL

LGPCFULLCover by you. Many Christians today read their Bibles through the lens of pop-prophecy books like The Late Great Planet Earth and the Left Behind series. They naively believe the prophetic schemes and theological presuppositions expressed in these and other fictional writings represent the doctrinal positions that every Christian down through the centuries has embraced. However, that is far from the truth.

Volume One of The Late Great Planet Church: The Rise of Dispensationalism is the first documentary of its kind. It exposes this fraudulent system of thought as breaking continuity with history and even the very Word of God. In this first volume we will examine the beginnings, beliefs, and motivations of this innovative movement by focusing on its relatively recent development, stormy history and its most influential proponents.

Hosted by Jerry Johnson, President of NiceneCouncil.com and The Apologetics Group, this documentary features pastors, scholars, and historians, who at one time were strongly committed dispensationalists. They have since rejected this system as thoroughly unbiblical viewing it as a stumbling block to the Church and a distraction from the Great Commission.

Featuring:

  • Dr. Kenneth L. Gentry
  • Dr. George Joseph Gatis
  • Dr. Gary DeMar
  • Dr. Tom Ascol
  • Dr. Kenneth G. Talbot
  • Dr. Tom Nettles
  • Dr. R. Fowler White
  • Dr. E. Calvin Beisner
  • Rev. Michael Leach
  • Mr. David Lutzweiler
  • "Dispensationalism has thrown down the gauntlet; and it is high time that covenant theologians take up the challenge and respond to them Biblically."
    — Dr. Robert L. Reymond, Professor Emeritus Knox Theological Seminary and author of A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith
  • "True Christians are thus faced with a choice. The decision is whether to submit to the compelling witness of Scripture or continue believing in a doctrinal system void of Biblical basis simply because that system is what one has always been taught. I urge my dispensational brothers and sisters to consider this choice prayerfully, and to eagerly embrace the Word of truth."
    — Dr. Keith A Mathison, graduate of Dallas Seminary and author of Dispensationalism: Rightly Dividing the People of God?
  • "The issue is not a few minors disagreements between those who hold basically the same position, but whether dispensationalism provides us with God's good news and plan for history, or instead, the opinions of man imposed on the Bible."
    — Dr. Curtis A. Crenshaw, graduate of Dallas Seminary and co-author of Dispensationalism: Today, Yesterday and Tomorrow
  • "The flawed system of theology known as Dispensationalism has had a negative influence on the Christian church over the last 150 years or so. The debilitating results of this errant theology needs to be corrected for the church of Christ to be about her work of fulfilling the Great Commission given to her by her Lord (Matthew 28:18-20). Volume One of The Late Great Planet Church: The Rise of Dispensationalism is a much needed work to aid both in the unraveling of Dispensationalism and the propagation of biblical, covenantal theology."
    — Dr. W. Gary Crampton, author, Calvinism, Hyper-Calvinism & Arminianism
  • "Volume One of The Late Great Planet Church: The Rise of Dispensationalism is a powerful tool that will create a good deal of discussion and dialog for all on both sides of this issue. The arguments presented do not come across in an attacking or sarcastic style. They present the truth in a loving and heartfelt manner. I recommend that students of God's Word -- especially those who have received dispensationalism via the popular culture -- view this incredible presentation."
    — Dr. D. Randall Talbot, Academic Dean, Whitefield College & Theological Seminary - Lakeland, FL
  • "This documentary, The Late Great Planet Church, is one of the best productions, both in style and substance I've ever seen and a must watch by followers of Christ everywhere. Allow me to congratulate Jerry, Ken and the whole NiceneCouncil.com staff."
    — Dr. Thom Van Devender, Pastor Emeritus, New Hope Baptist Church - Blandville, KS
  • "Dispensationalism has thrown down the gauntlet; and it is high time that covenant theologians take up the challenge and respond to them Biblically."
    — Dr. Robert L. Reymond, author, A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith
  • "The Late Great Planet Church: The Rise of Dispensationalism has the potential to be one of the best Christian documentaries of the year. I appreciate the time and research that went into it and the style in which it was presented. This is a must see for our Left Behind generation."
    — James F. Dietz, Director of Student Services, Knox Theological Seminary, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  • "NiceneCouncil.com's newest production The Late Great Planet Church: The Rise of Dispensationalism is to be commended for drawing attention to the early development of today's phenomenon called dispensationalism. I encourage every Christian to view this important documentary."
    — Dave MacPherson, author, The Rapture Plot
  • "The Late Great Planet Church (DVD) is a welcome and much-needed rebuke to the error of Dispensationalism which, for the last 180 years, has misrepresented the Scripture's teaching on the unity of God's purpose in the church. The historical facts presented reveal the fallacious foundation of dispensationalism's hermeneutic and theology. Dispensationalism is serious theological error and NiceneCouncil.com ought to be thanked for its diligent work in exposing the history of this movement."
    — Rev. Stephan R. Van Eck, Minister of Congregational Life, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, FL

"At last!...a balanced, well-crafted, stimulating (even provocative) video presentation of the biblical faith — with its world and life view — as recovered by the Reformation. It is a "must see" for all evangelical Christians." Dr. Cortez Cooper, former head of the MNA for the Presbyterian Church in America

Just what is "Calvinism?" Does this teaching make man a deterministic robot and God the author of sin? What about free will? If the church accepts Calvinism, won’t evangelism be stifled, perhaps even extinguished? How can we balance God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility? What are the differences between historic Calvinism and hyper-Calvinism? Why did men like Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon, Whitefield, Edwards and a host of renowned Protestant evangelists deny the Arminian definition of free will and label it heresy? Why did the Roman Catholic Church condemn the Reformed teaching of predestination and election and embrace free will theology? And why do so many Protestants, perhaps unwittingly, agree with Rome on this issue?

Amazing Grace — The History and Theology of Calvinism is the first video documentary that answers these and other related questions. This fascinating three-part, four-hour presentation is detailed enough so as to not gloss over the controversy. At the same time, it is broken up into ten "Sunday-school-sized" sections to make the rich content manageable and accessible for the average viewer.

Part One explores the history of the debate. It begins with the pivotal dispute between Augustine and Pelagius and continues through the semi-pelagian controversy; focusing particularly on the debate between Martin Luther and Desiderius Erasmus. Many viewers will be shocked to discover that free-will theology was NOT the doctrine of the Reformation but instead the teaching of an increasingly apostate Roman Catholic Church. The history section ends with a definitive historical explanation of the issues that arose during the Calvinist/Arminian controversy. By examining the five points of Arminianism and the Synod of Dort’s response, the viewer will clearly see that the Protestant Church understood how the Gospel would be compromised if Arminianism prevailed.

Part Two opens the Word of God, our ultimate authority for life and faith. The five points of Arminianism are put on trial as what would later come to be known as the "five points of Calvinism" are clearly and forcefully presented.

Part Three asks and answers the provocative question: If Calvinism is true, if God is absolutely sovereign; then why should we evangelize? It also explores the vital issue of how to and to whom the gospel should be presented so as to be faithful to the great doctrines of God’s sovereignty, man’s depravity, and the miracle of amazing grace.

Rich in graphics, dramatic vignettes, and biblical analogies, Amazing Grace — The History and Theology of Calvinism also features many of the finest reformed thinkers and pastors of our time: Dr. R.C. Sproul, Dr. D. James Kennedy, Dr. George Grant, Dr. Stephen Mansfield, Dr. Thomas Ascol, Dr. Thomas Nettles, Dr. Roger Schultz, Pastor Walt Chantry, Dr. Joe Morecraft, Dr. Ken Talbot, Pastor Walter Bowie and Dr. R.C. Sproul, Jr.

Come learn what the great Baptist preacher C.H. Spurgeon meant when he said, "...to deny Calvinism is to deny the gospel of Jesus Christ."

"This video series boldly, clearly, and winsomely sets forth the glorious, saving grace of God in its splendor and will help thousands to understand the gospel better and so to be filled with praise for their Savior." Dr. E. Calvin Beisner, Associate professor of historical theology and social ethics, Knox Theological Seminary, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

I am a Calvinist. I bought the DVDs and watched them and learned some thing from them. By the Grace of God i count my self priviledged to be a Calvinist. Thank you for the treasure you have provided in the DVDs and I thank God for the gift He has given you to do it. I pray that God will continue to bless the site.

This is one of the best teaching tools of the Christian faith. It clearly and in an easily understood method explain what Calvinism really teaches and the historicity of it's principal teachings going back to Augustine and ultimately back to the New Testament itself. I really enjoyed how the DVD wraps up the 5-points of Calvinism by applying it to the how and why we evangelize. Great job to the Apologetics Group.

This was an amazing DVD about Amazing Grace. Thank you. My recommendation is that it be purchased as a gift to your church or pastor/elder. Dr. Samuel Cole's review was correct. I cannot imagine why Fred Knapp took his position, but he is totally inaccurate. Last but not least, Daniel Chew Huicong provided a most gracious review. Plus-, I agree with Daniel -- that Eric Holmberg does an outstanding job of providing all the information one needs to discern doctrines of grace. To Eric Holmberg, I would suggest that you elaborate on your section about evangelism, perhaps another DVD?! ALL of us need encouragement and better examples about how to share the gospel while being fully immersed in the doctrines of grace. Though this DVD is over 4 hours long, let me compare it with another series: This Fall I spent over 75 hours playing and re-playing Curt Daniel's extensive study on Calvinism -- found here on Sermon Audio. I highly recommend Daniel's study -- plus Fred should take another look! The audio is exceptional -- likewise the video. The sample of top theologians and ministers who provided testimonial reinforcement of the points of discussion is impressive. Virtually all of the major "preachers" of the doctrines of grace that I have been following for the past decade are included in this DVD, or are referenced: D. James Kennedy, R. C. Sproul, Ray Comfort, John MacArthur, Tom Nettles . . . and the list goes on. Highly recommended, and yes it is a 10 on a scale of 10. Dr. Jim Dixon

About the Title: Gary addresses these prominent misconceptions:
  • "Jesus didn't get mixed up in politics"
  • "You can't impose your morality on other people"
  • "There's a separation between church and state"
  • "It's never right to resist authority"
  • "We're living in the last days"
  • "Christians should remain neutral"
  • "Christians should just 'preach the gospel"
  • "It's never right to judge what people do"
  • "Politics is dirty"
  • "Religion and politics do not mix"
  • "Our citizenship is in heaven"
  • "God's kingdom is not of this world"
These and many more objections are studied, evaluated, and answered in this succinctly-written book. Understanding what God's Word says about these often-recited but rarely examined challenges to Christian activism will determine the future of Christianity in America and around the world. With crisp insight, historical perspective, and clear Scriptural scrutiny, Gary DeMar sets forth a comprehensive argument for Christian involvement in the world that God created for His people to prosper in and enjoy. This just may be the most important book you will ever read.

Days of Vengeance
by David Chilton
Good news for those of you who have wanted a copy of David Chilton's extraordinary verse-by-verse exposition of Revelation. After being out of print for five years and only available at exorbitant prices in used book stores, Days of Vengeance is back! Going where no commentary has dared to go before, this work shuts the mouths of end-times doomsayers with their pessimistic view of the future. A bibilical and scholarly exposition of Revelation is laid out for readers to soak up and begin to view the world with renewed hope and optimism. Chilton skillfully shows in detail that Christians will overcome all opposition thourgh the work of Jesus Christ. The book of Revelation is not about the antichrist, the devil, microchips or bar codes. It is, as the very first verse says, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ." If this book isn't in your library, it should be. (Hardback, 700 pages)
