John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Hello,

My name is Erica. I am a proud Conservative, Christian from the South but now lives in the Midwest. We live in a "liberal" college town. We currently attend a E-Free Church. I have liked this church a lot. But, yesterday, 3 me (2 are elders and 1 is a pastor) gave a special Sunday School presentation in the sanctuary on "How Christians should navigate fake news." Well, the problem is they are all liberal, so the presentation was from that bias. One of the men is a journalism professor, and he made a blanked statement that "a good source of news NPR." I am having a hard time with this. This seems like indoctrination, to me. Does anyone recommend I find a different church or continue at this one? Thank you.

sheesh... Seems to me if one is liberal in their politics they will be liberal in other aspects of life. Most likely i would have walked out  at the NPR line. When we  go to church we are supporting that church. Same as if we go bowling we are supporting bowling. We need to know if we are an instrument of change planted or if we need the schooling of REAL bible scholars. Me? i would not go back to that church... Groups that front a sweet loving face but have no depth of Scripture are evil.

I wonder if the church has a doctrinal statement, and if so, what it says.

The way I handled fake news was when I realized that I was devoting more time to watching it and reading it than I was in honoring and being attentive to God Himself. Secular humanism was gaining the upper hand over what I should have been doing. And that was reading ,studying and praying to the Almighty God who is ultimately in control of all things. So what did I do ? First, shut the television off, the car radio off and destroyed any printed matter concerning politics. Its NOT WORTH IT ! I feel so much better serving God than worrying about some worm faced democrat who is leading a relentless battle to unseat our president. That is all these people, as well as conservatives , know how to do. They get in office only to enjoy the power and riches of the federal government that is fully at their disposal . They could care less for their constituents until it is election time again and they are out licking hands to reap votes from the people they have ignored all year. The next time I have anything to do with politics is when I enter the voting booth and pull the lever for President Trump. And presently I offer up prayers to our God to SAVE THIS NATION FROM THE SUDDEN DOOM OF A GROUP OF LIBERAL LEFTIST THAT WANT TO IMPEACH OUR PRESIDENT AND TURN THIS NATION INTO A SOCIALIST STATE ! God is first and let the political grunts take care of themselves ! I WANT NO NEWS TO ENTER MY EARS EXCEPT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND MY PARISH !  TO (  YES THAT PLACE )  with politics !! I've tuned it out of my mind !

Yes, get out of that place. Politics and especially liberalism have no place in a place of worship. If you really know Christ then I advise you to offer up prayers and supplications by surrendering all to Him by the promise ; "Cast thy burden upon the Lord and He shall sustain thee .He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved ." Ps.55:22 . Prayer definitely works ! Don't feel victimized by a group that thinks more of serving themselves than serving God . Get out of that place ! I'm praying for you.  M

Just Mike

I would leave that church and shake the dust off my clothes and wipe the dust off my shoes before I got in my truck. (most mid westerners drive trucks. Most likely you do or soon will)

Fox News and righ-wing news is equal trash and biased.. The best you can do is listen to all sides and try to parse out the facts yourself.

For the record I am not a liberal or conservative but I see clear justifications and lies from both sides. I think the biblical model lies in neither direction. Republicans lie all the time to get your vote and their constant card is the pro-life card. Well God requires civil magistrates to excercise all 10 commandments not just "though shall not kill."

My sermon recommendations on the topic:
