John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

How many hours of sleep do you need to feel well rested? Do you take naps?

I used to work night shift for a period of time, but I could never get used to it. I much more preferred swing shift because I can sleep in without worrying about that dreaded alarm clock.

I think it depends on a few factors, a person's age, physical activity and work life. When I was a teen I was rebellious and full of energy, I would work, go straight to the pub.. get drunk and get home late have 2-5 hours sleep and repeat, I done that for years, I couldn't do that now if you paid me.

I'm not working now, so I just sleep when I wish. But I'd say 9 hours is about right for me to be refreshed for the next day. The only time I take naps is if I'm very depressed, I'll stay in bed up to 20 hours in a day nodding off here and there, luckily I've not had any of them episodes lately, nor do I drink anymore.

The dreaded night shifts... I've done my share of that when I worked for the salvation army in a homeless hostel, 10:45pm till 9am was my shift with a 4 day on, 4 off pattern. I lived with my parents at the time & it was kind of difficult to get in a deep sleep with all the talking going on but I didn't mind it apart from that, although during summer was a nightmare! Trying to sleep during the day in a heatwave isn't great.

For my night shift job I got black wallpaper in my bedroom so it was darker even during the day, it helped getting to sleep. I quit the job a few months after we did that.. my mother wasn't too impressed haha.

It seems like if I only get a few hours in I feel better than if I've slept for as long as I could.

Alarm clocks don't wake me up, I just turn it off almost robotically in a half awake daze if I don't just sleep through it.
