John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Some stumble over the Holy Spirit being called “it”, and by this claim that He is only a force, a power, a non-intelligence.

Yet, they should also recognize that Jesus was called “it” [Revelation 12:4 KJB], “child” [Revelation 12:2,4,5 KJB], “holy thing” [Luke 1:35 KJB] and “holy child” [Acts 4:27,30 KJB], all of which are also neuter gender. Jesus is still a "person" [Hebrews 1:3; 2 Corinthians 2:10 KJB] and masculine.

The Father in Heaven, who indeed is a "person" [Hebrews 1:3; Job 13:8 KJB], is also given neuter terms, such as "Ancient of Days" [Daniel 7:9,13,22 KJB] and "Majesty" [Hebrews 1:3, 8:1 KJB], "I AM", "the living" [Matthew 16:16, 26:63; John 6:69; Acts 14:15 KJB], "Maker" [Job 36:3; Hosea 8:14; Hebrews 11:10 KJB], "Creator" [Romans 1:25; 1 Peter 4:19 KJB], and even referred to as "it" connected with "this voice", and "angel" (message) [John 12:29 KJB], etc, etc.

The wicked angels, also "persons" (fallen, contrasted to unfallen) [Luke 15:7 KJB], are also called “it” [Luke 8:29, 9:39, 11:14, etc. KJB], but they too are intelligent [though created] beings and cited in the masculine.

Neuter terms do not automatically mean inanimate, for instance, the terms “child”, “babe”, “person”, “mail-carrier”, “flight attendant”, etc.

I don't think this refers to the Holy Spirit.

Do not be deceived by the word "Powers" into thinking you are dealing with a mere force, since the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost/Spirit, as well as unfallen [as Gabriel and legions of Light] and fallen angels [as Lucifer and legions of Lie-ght], etc are all designated as "powers", each whom are living persons, living beings, see

Heavenly “powers” (simply means an 'authority', see also 1 Peter 3:22 KJB, "authorities"):

Ephesians 1:20 KJB - Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Ephesians 1:21 KJB - Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

Ephesians 3:10 KJB - To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Ephesians 6:12 KJB - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Colossians 1:16 KJB - For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Titus 3:1 KJB - Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

1 Peter 3:22 KJB - Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

You may of course disagree, and no hard feelings, but I shall remain convinced by the texts I have prayerfully studied.  If you will allow, I will briefly share with you some of those texts:

1Pe_4:14  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

That refers to the Person of the Holy Ghost/Spirit even as it does in Revelation 18:1.

The word "angel" means the "messenger" from God, coming down from Heaven.  In Revelation 18, it is the Holy Ghost/Spirit on behalf of, and in the name of Christ Jesus, in the "latter rain" power/glory, as at Pentecost, the "early rain" before it, see Psalms 133:1-3; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:2,5,8, 2:1-4,16-18,33; Revelation 5:6, etc.

Num_14:21  But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

Psa_72:19  And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

Isa_60:2  For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Eze_43:2  And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.

Can you see any parallelism in that which is now briefly shared?

Rev 18:1  And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

Even the words "great power" point back to Egypt and the leading out thereof by the Holy Ghost, the very "finger of God" (Luke 11:20; Matthew 12:28).

Exo_32:11  And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

2Ki_17:36  But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

Neh_1:10  Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

Psa_147:5  Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Exo_8:19  Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

Thank you brother William for the information.  I do not mind, however, that the underline doesn't display the text as a link, since the entire text is cited in the thread itself.  All other references I manually hand type.

Up to you whether you'll provide the ESV with a simple change that'll enable the Ref Tagger on our site. If you use KJV for example in your quotations the Reftagger will display the ESV which is our default setting. Personally, I don't use the KJV so enabling the ESV saves me time from looking up KJV references.
