John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

@William  I did not see any minorities people in photos, blacks or hispanics. I am not picking on you, it just might be part of the Country where they are. Here in Florida, we have the same thing. How can we get more people, that speak the same language to unite in worship? We can start a Post with this subject. E Morales

Cultural segregation IMO exists in the church as well as out in the world. I believe this is destructive to the church as well as to our nation.

This local area does have a fair amount of Hispanics but I seldom see blacks.

I don't have an answer.

Thanks, I don't have any answer my self, but in the way of the music that is being played at the churches? Music has the power to join or separate.

Generally, and I'm making a generalized statement because there are exceptions Reformed are regarded as highly intellectual [mindful] and certain offices in the church receive a high amount of professional training [Academia].

That appeals to a certain individual. Now I'm not suggesting minorities do not have the capacity for higher academia but I'm suggesting that intellectualism and higher academia go hand in hand. Depth of knowledge doesn't appeal to everyone. Orthodoxy can appear as cold as a snow capped mountain at times especially in a Reformed church where discipline is enforced in both life and doctrine. Not the overly expressive emotional feel me types found in the tropics if you know what I mean.

Right, I personally think one of the most destructive cultures is the hip hop rap culture. And it's not only devastating to the black community but youth in general. Music is powerful. Personally, I find a lot of youth are mesmerized or enchanted from musical beats which produce trance like states. They have ears but seldom "hear" the lyrics. They are focused on the tone or melody.  I compare this to the countless repetitious prayers which induced trance like states that Jesus rebuked. Contemporary music IMO [another generalization] is nothing more than repetitious chords, beats, and lyrics. They lack substance and theology which was so prominent in the classical hymns. The music or lyrics should be focused on worship of God and supporting the message of the sermon.
