John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Pray for me

I had emergency surgery on Nov. 17 for blocked ureters. Both were blocked by kidney stones, some stones were removed, stents were placed in both ureters. Stents were removed seven days later. On Dec. 2 at 9 PM I was taken into emergency surgery once again for the same thing. One side had a stone 6 mm and a 4.5 mm in the other, but neither could be removed. The CT Scan showed more stones were in the kidneys. Two days later I was sent home with a foley bag. This time the Dr's sai I most likely will have to have stents the rest of my life and about  every three months they will do surgery to remove the stones if possible. The Dr.'s believe this all came about after my 30 radiation treatments that ended on Nov. 5th. There are no signs of cancer at this point in time, and that is such a blessing.

These events have been extremely painful. At present I am able to cope with the pain most of the time. However this condition has drastically hampered me and my wife in serving our church and has effected our life a lot. I am now home bound except mainly for Dr. appointments.

Would you pray that these stones would stop forming and I could return to a more normal way of life. Many of you have been a prayer partner for me several times and I  sincerely appreciate your prayers. For those who are new to me I  again thank you for lifting me up before the FATHER, who is able to do more than we can ask. God bless you for taking the time to pray in my behalf.

In Christ Jesus,

Mike

Thanks for keeping us updated Mike. I hope the pain subsides and disappears. That has got to be really difficult. You are in my prayers before our gracious Lord.
