John Calvin puts forward a very simple reason why love is the greatest gift: “Because faith and hope are our own: love is diffused among others.” In other words, faith and hope benefit the possessor, but love always benefits another. In John 13:34–35 Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Love always requires an “other” as an object; love cannot remain within itself, and that is part of what makes love the greatest gift.

Greetings,

New to the forum. Some pretty good discussions. Joining to meet like minded people. I live in a pretty secular part of the USA, and feel like a “square peg in a round hole” when it comes to relating to people here.

Aside from that, I go to a PCA Presbyterian church. A Tim Keller church plant. Definitely grateful for the mature mentors the Lord has brought into my life. I usually get fed most in my morning/evening devotions and my own study, mostly from dead people (Puritans, etc.) imperfect people who finished the race well. But I like contemporary authors too. I lean more Reformed.

I’m flawed, but always learning, love the Lord. I have somewhat of a sarcastic sense of humor and can be blunt. Especially when mentoring and sharing the gospel and God’s holiness, Hell, sin, substitutionary atonement,  and His love.

Other things: I love books, audiobooks (I think I’m up to 250 in my Audible library now), photography, maps, history, Bible studies, swimming, biking, hiking. I don't like politics and haven't owned a TV in over 5 years. I'm not really dogmatic about avoiding that stuff, it's just not really edifying and has really helped my growth since I totally got it out of my life.

Other than that, I’m running of out things to type. The weather is pretty nice here though for a secular part of the country  😄 I’m writing this as I’m waiting for them to finish servicing my car. I should be working on my taxes but I can be a procrastinator.

Thanks for reading.
